You will meet our team at the hotel or airport and begin sightseeing of Addis with a drive up to Entoto Hills (NOT ENTOTO PARK) for a panoramic view of Addis. Descend down and drive to the Ethnological Museum, which houses anthropological, musicological and cultural objects. The Museum is located in the main campus of Addis Ababa University and was the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie. Then drive to the National Museum, home to many precious archaeological finds such as the fossilized remains of early hominids, the most famous of which is Lucy, the partial skeleton of Australopithecus Afarensis. Recently added to the basement gallery is a display on Selam, dating back 3.3 million years. Continue to St. George Cathedral, noted for its distinctive octagonal form, rebuilt after the Battle of Adwa. Finally, drive to Merkato, Africa's largest open-air marketplace, established by the Italians around 1937, covering several square miles and employing thousands of people.
